NHL Hockey is one of the Intellivision’s classic sports simulations, recreating the speed and strategy of ice hockey through passing, shooting, checking, face-offs, and defensive play. Players directly control the skater carrying the puck while the computer manages the remaining teammates and goaltender, creating fast-paced two-player competition that rewards positioning and teamwork. Originally released by Mattel Electronics with official National Hockey League branding, the game was also marketed simply as Hockey in editions from which the NHL name and logo were removed, with no significant change to the gameplay. Its combination of arcade action and team strategy helped reinforce the Intellivision’s reputation as one of the leading home consoles for sports games.
